![]() There were 2 major problems that I had and which I fault the installer. From what I could find out from google the console thing is an off again/on again issue. The primary reason is that virtual console didn't work so I was unable to determine what the problem was. ![]() It took me 5 attempted installs (and 3 days) to get it running. Since it appears that it may be futile so I'll just vent here, pull my hat down over my ears, and go back to lurking. I'm not faulting the installer, I just want to comment on it. I just haven't spent a lot of time hanging out in the Linux world. I'm not here to ruffle the feathers of those that may be younger than I but have been installing longer than I. Sadly, such complaints seem to fall on deaf ears in DebianLand. That it sorta sucks? You wouldn't be the first to say so (nor even the 100th). Not enough swap.to run the installer.with a gig of memory.really Insert CD2 to continue.what CD2.how many damn CDs do I need to do a base install Oh and I always found anaconda pretty confusing and often error prone. If you want user friendly then linspire or some other 'already did it all for you so you can show your friends how 1337 you are' distro is for you. It gives you enough rope to hang yourself not cuddle you in its arms and pop out the tit for you to suckle to your hearts content in whatever flavor you can imagine.ĭebian isn't user friendly, you have to become debian friendly. If you are too clueless to know what you want (and aren't willing to learn) then it isn't going to kiss your ass and try to read your mind and work magic for you. It is going to offer a sane (if pitiful) default and provide plenty of choice for those that want something else. It isn't going to remove fifty options, limit choices, and assume we all want XYZ. It expects you to learn the language in order to understand what you are doing. It isn't going to 'speak your language' as those guidelines suggest. What it doesn't offer is to handhold and spoonfeed those that want something beyond what they understand. It just doesn't get any better than that.ĭidn't you know that even a chicken can install debian. My 11 year old daughter can install debian on her computer and be happy with the outcome and I can install debian on my computer and be happy with the outcome. Never been a fanboi but have always found debian to truly be universal. Lavene usually had a good point.even when she was wrong Well I am older than dirt and I invented binary. The bugs site doesn't appear to be the right place for general comments. I have some comments I'd like to made regarding the installer but so far can't find the place to do that. So your reading assignment will probably serve me well. Previously I have dabbled with Suse KDE but never spent any time with gnome. It was a great computer, 10 yrs ago, and I hated seeing otherwise perfectly good hardware going to waste, so I dusted off the old doorstop and set it up in my garage to use for web access on an occasional basis. Thanks for the homework assignment, probably take me weeks to wade through all that.įWIW, I'm using the i386 distro on an ancient AMD K-6 550. No matter now, I have the recent IceWeasel from backports and I'm a happy camper with that. ![]() This is the article I was intially trying to follow, I think my problem was with the libs.
